Old Mutual poised for greater heights

Newly appointed Managing Director of Old Mutual, Chris Kapanga says he has found a very dynamic team at the company which will make more strides on the market. Kapanga said this in Blantyre during his welcome party held at Sunbird Mount Soche. "I have found a dynamic team at Old Mutual and I am assured that we will achieve more as we grow on the market. We will continue to provide products in the life insurance and employee benefits line of business. "I am excited to be at Old Mutual now as there are a number of reforms taking place on the market, the main one being the pension funds bill and this brings challenges that I am prepared to take head on," said Kapanga.
He said the company will move further to the masses to conduct civic education campaigns on insurance services including its benefits so that more members of the general public are aware of why they require insurance. Old Mutual Malawi Chairman Simon Itaye said the new MD has come at a right time as the company is trying to reposition itself on the market. "We are also very sure that Old Mutual will greatly benefit from his 30 years experience that is why we are assured that he is going to take us to greater heights," said ltaye.
The new MD commenced his career in insurance with Commercial Union Insurance Company which later transformed to CGU Insurance Company after a merger. During his tenure at CGU Insurance Company, Kapanga was posted to South Africa for a two year period, following which he joined Nico General Insurance Company in Malawi as General Manager. Kapanga is one of the earliest Malawians to become a Chartered Insurer, having qualified as ACII with the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK, in 1985 He holds a Diploma in Business Management as well as a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town (UCT) South Africa.
